Description:

SciArt is a project joining art and science to support EU policy making. The flagship initiative of the SciArt project is the "Resonances" festival. The 2019 Resonances III theme is "big data". With SciArt, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) brings together artists, scientists and policymakers. At the Resonances festivals artists and scientist collaborate to exhibit artistic installations. The JRC will organise a Resonances summer school for artists and JRC scientists in Ispra, Italy, on 25 - 29 June 2018. This summer school lays the foundation for the 2019 Resonances III 'big data' festival.

Algorithmic systems are being adopted in a growing number of contexts. Fueled by big data, these systems filter, sort, score, recommend, personalize, and otherwise shape human experiences of socio-technical systems. Although these systems bring myriad benefits, they also contain inherent risks, such as codifying and entrenching biases; reducing accountability and hindering due process; and increasing the information assymmetry between data producers and data holders.
